Vision and Values

Our Vision

At Long Mead Community Primary School, we aspire to be outstanding; a school that enables every child to fulfil their potential academically and socially and be the best version of themselves. We aim to provide a nurturing, caring environment where the well-being of children is paramount, instilling in them a love to learn and giving them a positive vision for their future. A truly inclusive school for all.

Our Values

Our six values of kindness, respect, resilience, teamwork, responsibility and excellence are woven everything we do, both through our curriculum and wider school life. They underpin our Behaviour Policy and are taught explicitly through assemblies, PSHE lessons and circle time.

Our values are celebrated daily in the classroom and around the school. Each class teacher also celebrates a child that has been outstanding in one of the values in our Fun Friday assembly.

At Long Mead, Kindness means thinking of someone else before yourself, putting someone else’s feelings first and acting in a way which helps someone feel happy and valued. It is the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. It is also important to be kind to ourselves to support our own well-being.

At Long Mead, Respect means speaking to and interacting with others in a courteous, friendly manner: it is about being honest, reliable and trustworthy. We want our whole school community to respect each other and the best way to teach this is by showing respect. When a child experiences respect, they know what it feels like and begin to understand how important it is. We regularly discuss how respecting someone does not mean that we always agree with the other person but that we are prepared to listen and share our views without rudeness or impatience.

At Long Mead, Responsibility means taking ownership of your learning, answering for your actions and being trusted by others. We think about responsibility in terms of our own learning and behaviour choices, what we do for our local community both in and out of school and our wider global responsibly.

At Long Mead, good Teamwork means that we are listening, sharing, taking turns and being willing to compromise when we don’t agree. We always try to do our best and will actively encourage others to do their best too. We remember the positive power of saying thank you for the part someone else has played.

At Long Mead, Resilience means not giving up when things are tough, accepting the challenge and having a go. It involves us working hard, trying when it is a challenge and asking for help when we need it. It is our ability to be happy and successful again after something difficult or bad has happened.

At Long Mead, Excellence means doing something to the best of our ability. We have high expectations of our children and want them to strive to be the best that they can be both socially and academically. It is about individual growth, sense of achievement and the effort that we put in.
